Is the Scuba E-list a club?

No, not in the traditional sense.  No dues, no meetings, no officers.  I am just using my own personal webspace and e-mail account to act as a resource for organizing dives.

How do I join, change my e-mail, suggest a day to dive, etc?

For joining the mailing list, use the join page which will direct you to the listserv website.  To make changes, visit the listserv website. For dive proposals, use the proposal page.  If all else fails, send your request to paul(-at-)lauraandpaul.com.

How do I send a message to the entire list? Will my message be sent immediately?

Any mail sent to dive(-at-)spaceship.com should be intended for EVERYONE on the list.  You must have all ready joined the list to do this.  Normally, all e-mail should be immediately sent to the entire group.  However, we reserve the right to moderate this list at any time to prevent unsolicited e-mail, advertisements--in other words SPAM.

What is a Activity Coordinator, is that some sort of Dive Leader or Dive Master?

No, and that is a very important point.  There are a number of certified Dive Masters and Instructors on this list, but they will not be present on every dive.  An Activity Coordinator is someone who has volunteered to organize some people for a particular dive.  They are NOT there to lead divers.  In fact, you might be a more experienced diver than the Activity Coordinator who is organizing a dive.  You and your buddy are responsible for your dive plan.  If you need an experienced buddy, some of the Activity Coordinator's can dive with you, but they cannot act as a buddy for the whole group.  Too many accidents have occurred with three-person groups, so we encourage everyone to only work as a two-person buddy team.

Are you an employee of (insert dive shop here) ?

No, but like most divers I have built a relationship with certain shops.  I might be able to help you pick out rental gear, help you in the pool, or fill your tanks but I'm not on the payroll.

I haven't gotten any e-mail, is anyone diving?

Maybe not.  Unless someone (and that includes you) asks about organizing a dive, we may not send out any notices for some time.  Other divers need to act as the contact person for some of these dives (i.e. an Activity Coordinator)

I would like to dive somewhere else, can I make a suggestion?

Please do.  If you are familiar with another site and would like to suggest it as for a dive, just make the suggest from the dive proposal page and see if anyone takes you up on it.

Can we try to hook up with a dive shop, tour group, etc?

Yes, if anyone wants to 'advertise' a particular trip or dive that another group has organized, please send the information.  It will be posted to this website.

Can I come without bringing a buddy? Are beginners welcome? Can I rent all my gear? Can I get a ride?

Yes to all of those.  The purpose of the website has been to encourage those divers who may not have the contacts and resources to dive as often as they would like.   Just be sure to WARN us well in advance that you would like some assistance or would like to go easy on a particular dive. Quite a number of people have even come along on their first dives with us and we found them buddies and helped them figure out what gear to rent.   If a dive is planned as an 'advanced' dive, it will be noted in the webpage and on e-mail.

How do I get to Windy Point, Volente, etc?

Take a look at our "Where to Dive" page.
